  • Hike for Heart Committee & Single-Day

    Hike for Heart | September 13, 2020

    Hike for Heart Committee is responsible for the Coordination of the signature fall event. The committee is responsible for the planning, logistics and execution of the 500-person hike in Laurel Creek Conservation Area in September. Volunteers on the Hike for Heart Committee work on all aspects of the event including working with Laurel Creek to plan the route,  event day agenda, food and beverage, programing for kids and families, prizes and more.  

    About:

    Hike for Heart is a family friendly event which occurs in September. St. Mary’s Hike for Heart brings everyone who has been on this journey, together in a celebration of recovery. Providing an opportunity to gather with individuals, families and St. Mary’s staff who understand this shared experience. Come out to beautiful Laurel Creek Conservation Area and join a 1, 3 or 5 km hike followed by a free lunch! Together, we embrace the strength of one another and celebrate the joy of recovery!

    Key responsibilities could include:

    1. Assist with marketing of the hike including developing content for website, social media and networking in the community.
    2. Assist with layout, flow, parking, signage and overall logistics associated with the event beginning to end.
    3. Manage and recruit participant registration both online and onsite at the event.
    4. Plan and coordinate food and refreshments for participants at the post hike festivities.
    5. Ensure safety regulations are in place and being adhered to.
    6. Participate in promotional activities by visiting local sports businesses/running stores to hand out information.


    Skills:

    1. Strong organization and event planning skills
    2. Strong Communication skills
    3. Comfortable liaising with SMGHF Staff and other VIP participants
    4. Strong teamwork skills
    5. Previous experience with executing a similar event is an asset

    The Hike for Heart Committee meets one evening a month from July – September. Pre-event walk thru, and working meetings can be expected.  This event will happen rain or shine and may involve sitting, standing and bending. The committee meets monthly for 1.5 hours, time commitment varies on your role with the committee.

    Single Day Volunteers:

    Single day volunteers are needed to assist with the event day set-up, lunch service, children’s programing. Additional single day volunteers are needed to assist with traffic control, parking and registration. Volunteers under the age of 19 are permitted to volunteer at this event.

  • St. Mary's Doubles Open Committee & Single-Day

    St. Mary’s Doubles Open | Tuesday, July 7 2020

    The Committee is responsible for the Coordination of the St. Mary’s General Doubles-Open-Full-Colour.pngHospital Foundation’s newly re-branded signature golf torment. The Committee is responsible for the planning, logistics and execution of the 18 hole ladies only tournament. Volunteers on the Committee work on all aspects of the event, including event day logistics, programming, registration, on course activations, food and beverage, post-game programming and more. The Committee meets monthly for 1.5 hours, and volunteers can also expect an additional 15-20 hours

    About: Have trouble finding a 4th? No problem!   A unique spin on a classic sport, the inaugural St. Mary’s Doubles Open invites  “twosomes”  to participate in an outstanding day on the course!  

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Assist with marketing of the golf tournament, including developing content for website, social media and networking in the community.
    2. Assist with event schedule, on-course activities, signage and overall logistics associated with the event beginning to end.
    3. Plan and coordinate food and refreshments for participants
    4. Ensure safety regulations are in place and being adhered to
    5. Participate in pre-event day logistics


    Skills:

    1. Strong organization and event planning skills
    2. Strong Communication skills
    3. Comfortable liaising with SMGHF Staff and other VIP participants
    4. Strong teamwork skills
    5. Comfortable in soliciting prizing and in-kind sponsorship
    6. Previous experience with executing a similar event is an asset
     

    Time Commitment:

    The Doubles Open Committee meets one evening a month from 5 pm – 6 pm. Pre-event admin and packaging gifts as required, working meetings leading up to the event may be expected. 
     
    Single Day Volunteers:

    Single-day volunteers are needed to assist with:

    • Golfer registration
    • Hospitality services, programing and on course activations 
    • Parking and event set-up
    • Photography
    • Volunteers under the age of 19 are permitted to volunteer at this event upon approval by our events manager. (Alcohol is served at this event)



     

  • RedDAY Committee

    RedDAY Friday |  June 12 2020 - Postponded 

    RedDAY Outreach Committee is responsible for the Coordination of the signature #RedDAY social movement presented by Manulife. The committee is responsible for the recruitment, logistics and cultivation of contacts you will utilize your personal and professional networks to raise awareness, encourage participation and drive fundraising results for local participants and teams. You will oversee all participant and team activities, as well as ensure participants have the required tools and resources to be successful and have fun raising money to reach their goals. Your strong interpersonal skills, excellent time management and passion for helping others will be an asset.

    About:

    RedDAY, Heart disease is the leading cause of premature death among Canadian women, yet most are unaware they are at risk.  Join this effort to raise awareness on June 12th wear RED!  Post your photo and a message to encourage a heart healthy lifestyle using #RedDayFriday

    Key responsibilities could include:

    1. Assist with recruitment and outreach for participation can include: Community leaders, schools, workplaces
    2. Contribute to social media planning and networking in the community prior to event day.
    3. Assist with material distribution, assembling promotional materials   
    4. Plan and coordinate any RedDAY activities throughout  the region  
    5. Assist with RedDAY merchandise store and outside vendors
    6. Liaise with SMGH staff and Tim Hortons and other hospital vendors


    Skills:

    1. Strong Communication skills comfortable cold calling and emailing contacts
    2. Comfortable liaising with SMGHF Staff and other VIP participants
    3. Strong social media skills, grammar and writing copy
    4. Comfortable in soliciting new partners – getting people excited
    5. Ability to volunteer remotely, access to a computer
     

    Time Commitment:

    The Committee will meet regularly over the course of the year, with increasing commitments as the event approaches. Each committee member will have their portfolio but will share a passion for the mission. The committee meets monthly for 1.5 hours, and volunteers can also expect an additional 6-15 hours.  Volunteering can be done remotely.


    Single Day Volunteers:

    Single-day volunteers are needed to assist with hospitality activations and photography. Volunteers under the age of 19 are permitted to volunteer at this event.

  • She Shares Luncheon Committee

    Volunteer_sheshareslogo.pngShe Shares Committee is responsible for the Coordination of the signature March event. The Committee is responsible for the planning, logistics and execution of the 300-person women’s Luncheon. Volunteers on the Committee work on all aspects of the event, including venue relations, event day schedule, food and beverage, set-up needs décor and more. The Committee meets monthly for 1.5 hours, and volunteers can also expect an additional 10-15 hours
    Key Responsibilities:
     
    1. Identify potential table sponsors and recruit ticket purchasers.
    2. Plan details for the Luncheon, including décor, food and keynote speaker support.
    3. Promote the event via social media and within the community.
    4. Liaise with sponsors and guests and promote the She Shares More program.
    5. Volunteer at the event, including set-up, registration, decor, and clean-up

    Single Day volunteers are needed for event logistics depending on their skill set, such as: set up, greet guests, assist with registration, help guests find tables and clean up after the event. Volunteers under the age of 19 are permitted to volunteer at this event upon approval. 
  • Pickleball Cardiac Classic Committee & Single Day

    An annual tournament that brings passionate picklers and newcomers together to support St. Mary's Regional Cardiac Care Centre. The fact is, being active is a big part of heart health. St. Mary’s and The Waterloo Pickleball Club have teamed up to bring together pickleball players and supporters of St. Mary’s in a 3-day tournament that will excite, unite and help St. Mary’s General Hospital continue to provide the exceptional care it is known for. 

     
    Key responsibilities could include:

    1. Assist with overall logistics associated with the event beginning to end.
    2. Manage and recruit participant registration both online and onsite at the event.
    3. Plan and coordinate food and refreshments for participants.
    4. Ensure safety regulations are in place and being adhered to.
    5. Participate in promotional activities by visiting local sports businesses/running stores to hand out information.


    Skills:

    1. Great organization skills
    2. Strong Communication skills
    3. Strong teamwork skills
    4. Previous experience in volunteering is not needed


    Single Day Volunteers:

    Single day volunteers are  welcome and needed to assist with registration, hospitality services, programing and event day activations. Additional single day volunteers are needed to assist photography. 

  • Single-Day Volunteer Roles Needed

    EVENT VOLUNTEERS

    Single-Day volunteers are currently needed for:

    • St. Mary's Doubles Open | July 7 2020
    • Hike for Heart | September 13 2020  

    Volunteer_Foundation.pngRegistration: Friendly and welcoming, ability to answer basic questions about the event. Registering participants onsite ensuring pledge forms are filled out correctly, confirm offline donations are correct and accept cash and or credit card donations this is an 18+ volunteer role.  Registration can be low responsibility (signing people in) or high (selling tickets and collecting fundraising packages) ideal for a group or an individual

    Greeter: Become an event Greeter where you will warmly greet our hikers, event attendees and ensure they have completed a waiver and direct them to the appropriate registration areas.

    Usher: Ushers will guide people to their seats and greet people at the door. Help those who with accessibility challenges. Friendly and welcoming, knowledgeable on venue way finding.  This is an indoor position walking is required.

    Event Operations: Volunteers that can execute set-up and tear down of an event. Set-up includes lifting tables, setting up chairs and signage. This is a physically demanding position. Ideal for an individual or group. 

    Community Ambassador: This is a fun and rewarding volunteer position. Community Ambassadors will attend community events and promote St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, circulate promotional materials. Volunteers should be knowledgeable on current events and appeals. The Community Ambassadors will be responsible for setting up marketing tables and pull up banners. Must have access to a vehicle.  

    Photography Volunteers: Based on the needs of the project, the photographer will take pictures of people, medical settings, events and medical objects. They will use their artistic and technical skills to create images the used for marketing collateral, website and social media. In addition to taking high-quality images, the photographer will also maintain all camera equipment, including lights, lenses and tripods. After pictures are complete, the photographer will submit the images to the Communications and Multi Media Coordinator.  

    Videographer Volunteer: Based on the needs of the project, the videographer will take videos of people, medical settings, events and B-roll  They will use their artistic and technical skills to create video used for, website and social media and, promotions. In addition to taking high-quality video, the videographer will also maintain all camera equipment, including lights, lenses and tripods.

    Parking Monitor: Volunteers manage the flow and lot order on event day. Oversee parking lot maintain a clean and safe parking lot at all times. Radio event Operations and work with shuttle service providers. Assist those with accessibility concerns.
