Much of cardiac care requires an immediate treatment or response. There is a direct relationship between distance to hospital and patient survival.
Patients from 10 neighbouring counties rely on St. Mary’s General Hospital for advanced cardiac services; stretching north to Grey-Bruce and south to the shores of Norfolk. Without access to the advanced services of St. Mary’s, these patients would be forced to travel to London, Hamilton or even Toronto for the care they require.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Brian McNamara, Chief of Cardiovascular Services:
"We stand presently on the cusp of some new things….We are going to have to look to the community to help us fund some of those in order that the people of this LIHN have the same access to care as the other major metropolitan regions in Ontario"
