When Stephanie Amorim’s 22-month-old daughter Isla became lethargic with a high fever, Stephanie felt conflicted. Her gut told her to get Isla to an emergency room, but as a new mom, Stephanie worried her concerns would be chalked up to overreaction and not taken seriously.

St. Mary’s General Hospital celebrated a milestone moment for local healthcare Tuesday after scanning its first patient with a new, donor-funded magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine.
Denise, a former cardiac patient at St. Mary’s, sat in on a recent She Shares voting meeting, where members gathered to hear pitches from hospital staff before deciding to fund vital equipment for the urology and emergency departments.
PREVENT Clinic, powered by Manulife, is a new initiative that will operate out of St. Mary’s Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Clinic at The Boardwalk.
Thanks to Kari Gow and her students at Conestoga College for showcasing their creativity and determination throughout their fundraising course.
Together, they organized impactful charity events supporting St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation and raised a total of $1,151 – funds that will go directly towards improving local healthcare.
Ray Huang knows how it feels to struggle for breath – and the fear and panic that comes with it. As a respiratory therapist in Richmond, B.C., Ray has been helping people with their breathing issues for nearly a decade.
This massive project began in early 2023. By the end of March 2024, St. Mary’s will see its first cardiac MRI patient.
